We are a 14 person collective living in a big blue house in the University District.  We live cooperatively, sharing the work, cost, and care of living together.  We try to make our home a safe space, and to minimize the presence of transphobia, racism, ableism, sexism, homophobia and other oppressive language and actions.  In our house, it is always important to call people by their preferred gender pronouns.  We are striving to create an autonomous space free from oppression and fear!

We vale:

- sharing skills and knowledge

- critical discourse and discovery

- an awareness of one’s own privilege

- consensus-based decision making

- art and reclamation of public spaces

- breaking down hierarchies

- sharing vegan meals

- listening to and playing music

- bicycles

- growing our own food

- hosting monthly community potlucks

- activism

We share nightly dinners (each member is required to cook twice a month).  Members contribute to our chore and house work system, attend two house meetings a month, and go on retreats twice a year.

Our average base rent is around $450/month, with cost varying according to room size and location.  There is a deposit of $700 (payment options are available).  We share the costs of vegetarian and mostly organic food, mortgage, property tax, maintenance, utilities, local phone, and DSL.  In total this costs around $150 in addition to the base room cost.  Total membership dues at this time range from $593-654.

We have open spaces beginning in July and continuing through summer and fall.

If you are curious about membershipping, please contact us at sherwoodcooperative@gmail.com.  We ask that all interested members come to three house dinners, write a letter of intent, have a one-one-one conversation with a house member, and then attend a membership meeting.  Please only contact us if you are willing to fully participate in our labor and expense sharing system and if you are looking to stay for at least a year.

We look forward to meeting you!
